Human Chatbot is a direct reaction to current amount of AI features, assistance and tools popping up all over the place, on every website, app, program, socials, news. It is currently, everywhere. Why are these being sold to us as friendly companions and assistants? Why are they so humanised yet we are meant to feel comfortable with the fact they are inanimate beings? Why does artificial intelligence get to learn things and converse with us and humans still work tirelessly for minimum wage, doing exhausting, difficult, dangerous jobs, becoming isolated from their communities and being ripped away from education just for the gain of others? Surely if we are going to have to have a life with artificial intelligence then it should do the bad stuff so we can all be free again?

The piece is a deep reaction to all of the above and my spiralling existentialism but also rooted in my connection to Paraguay. My best friend and I live 10,000km apart, she is in Asuncion and I am in London. Our connection despite this distance is kept alive by messaging, I still feel closer to her now, even with distance, than I do to people around me. The medium of messaging to me is one of endless possibility, sadness, laughs, knowledge and instant connection all whilst we do other things. Technology that really did change life for us in a positive way and the piece calls for me to bring exactly this to our interaction.

I’ll be the human intelligence for the next 4 days and I will learn and talk to people which is one of life’s great joys, and I invite you to share this joy with me.

Human Chatbot es una reacción directa a la cantidad de funciones, asistentes y herramientas de IA que están apareciendo por todas partes —en cada sitio web, app, programa, red social y noticia. Hoy en día están en todas partes. ¿Por qué nos los venden como compañeros amigables y asistentes? ¿Por qué se los humaniza tanto, si se supone que debemos sentirnos cómodos con seres inanimados? ¿Por qué la inteligencia artificial puede aprender y conversar con nosotres mientras los humanos siguen trabajando sin descanso por un salario mínimo, haciendo tareas agotadoras, difíciles y peligrosas, aislándose de sus comunidades y siendo apartados de la educación para el beneficio de otrxs? Si vamos a vivir con inteligencia artificial, ¿no tendría que hacer ella lo malo para que podamos ser libres otra vez?

La pieza es una reacción profunda a todo lo anterior y a mi espiral de existencialismo, pero también está enraizada en mi vínculo con Paraguay. Mi mejor amiga y yo vivimos a 10.000 km de distancia: ella en Asunción y yo en Londres. Nuestra conexión, a pesar de la distancia, se mantiene viva por los mensajes; hoy me siento más cerca de ella que de muchas personas a mi alrededor. Para mí, la mensajería es un medio de posibilidades infinitas: tristeza, risas, saber, conexión instantánea, todo mientras hacemos otras cosas. Es una tecnología que realmente cambió la vida para nosotras de forma positiva, y la pieza busca traer exactamente eso a nuestra interacción.

Seré la inteligencia humana durante los próximos cuatro días: voy a aprender y a conversar con personas —que es una de las grandes alegrías de la vida— y te invito a compartir esa alegría conmigo.
